SMS / Text Messaging Privacy Policy

130 Stuyvesant Place, 5th Floor, Staten Island, NY 10301  ·  nycid.org
Effective date: July 6, 2026  ·  Applies to the NYCID text messaging program (NYCID Solutions App), including SYEP and NYCID community programs

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

New York Center for Interpersonal Development, Inc. ("NYCID," "we," "us") is a nonprofit organization that administers the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) on Staten Island and in partner communities. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect the mobile phone numbers and related information of program participants, parents or guardians of minor participants, and community members who receive text messages from the NYCID text messaging program, operated through the NYCID Solutions App.

2. Information we collect

We collect mobile phone numbers and contact information when a person enrolls in an NYCID program or service and consents to receive program communications — for example, when a young person enrolls in SYEP (or a parent or guardian provides a number on a minor participant's behalf), or when a community member signs up for NYCID programs, services, or event updates. Consent is given voluntarily — either by texting an opt-in keyword to our number or via a separate, optional, unchecked checkbox on our forms — and is never a condition of enrollment, participation, or service; see our Text Message Program Opt-In page. We may also retain records of the messages we send and receive, including opt-in and opt-out requests, for program administration and compliance purposes.

3. How we use your information

Mobile numbers collected through NYCID enrollment are used to send NYCID program and service notifications, including: SYEP notifications such as worksite placement updates, orientation and first-day reminders, required-document and timesheet alerts, and schedule or date changes; community notifications such as community events, free services, and volunteer opportunities; emergency service notices; information about NYCID's conflict resolution and crisis management services; and responses to questions participants send us. We do not use this program to send third-party advertising or promotional content.

Mobile number non-sharing

No mobile phone numbers or text messaging opt-in data will be shared with, sold to, or rented to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties under any circumstances.

4. Message frequency

Message frequency

Message frequency varies based on program activity and your enrollment status. During the active summer program you may receive several messages per week.

5. Cost of messages

Rates disclosure

Message and data rates may apply. Any charges are billed by and payable to your mobile service provider according to your mobile plan.

6. Opting out and getting help

You can cancel the SMS service at any time by texting STOP to the number that messaged you. After you send STOP, we will confirm your unsubscribe status and you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. To rejoin, reply START or enroll again through NYCID program staff.

If you experience issues with the messaging program, reply with the keyword HELP for assistance, or contact us directly at syep@nycid.org or (718) 815-4557.

7. Data security and retention

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the contact information we hold. Phone numbers and messaging records are retained only as long as needed for program administration, funder reporting requirements, and legal compliance, and are then deleted.

8. Carriers

Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted at this address with its effective date.
