Your OL number is your SYEP Application ID β it looks like OL-1234567. We ask for your last name and ZIP code too so a mistyped number can't open someone else's file.

Heads up β we're aware of a problem with your orientation.
We know there's an issue with your self-guided orientation right now. Our NYCID team is working on it β you don't need to do anything yet. We'll reach out (text or email) the moment it's ready to complete. Thanks for your patience.

NYCID Virtual Internship
Your job happens in the Virtual Internship Lab
Open the lab for this week's tasks, submit your work, and track your hours.
You are being given access to the job selection process because you were not given a chance to complete orientation. You will still need to complete your orientation before the program begins. You can finish the self-paced orientation below at any time.
Your Hats & Ladders Career Climbs aren't done yet.
Every SYEP participant has to finish their Hats & Ladders Career Climbs before we can place you at a worksite. Log in, knock them out, and you're closer to your placement.
Your Sexual Harassment Prevention Training isn't done yet.
NYC requires every employee 16 and older to complete this online training. You MUST enter your full name so it appears on the certificate at the end β no exceptions. If your name isn't on it, you'll have to redo the whole training. After you pass, upload the certificate in the participant portal. You will not be placed at a job until this is complete.
π Before you start β Older Youth requirements
A couple of things may need to be in place before your first day:
πͺͺ Working Papers (Employment Certificate)β Action needed
If you are under 18, New York State requires Working Papers (an employment certificate) on file before you can start working. Get them from your school's guidance/main office or your school district, then submit them as instructed during enrollment.
Confirm your upload to the YEPS portal:
Did you upload the correct, current Working Papers to your participant portal? (NYS uses different colored cards by age β blue for 14β15, green for 16β17. If you turned 16, the blue one from before is no longer valid.)
By entering my initials I certify that I am completely certain I already submitted the correct Working Papers when I enrolled. I understand I am not uploading a copy now, and that staff will confirm this against the YEPS portal.
πΊπΈ Selective Service Registrationβ Action needed
If you are male and 18 or older, federal law requires you to be registered with Selective Service. SYEP requires older youth (16+) to upload proof of registration.
Click to learn how to register β
How to register
Online: go to sss.gov/register β it takes only a few minutes. You'll need your Social Security Number, date of birth, and address.
Verification: after registering, go to sss.gov/verify to get a verification letter/certificate β you may need this as proof during SYEP enrollment.
Deadline: male newcomers to the U.S. ages 18β25 must register within 30 days of arrival. Everyone else must register before turning 26.
SYEP-specific
Upload: on the SYEP Participant Site, older youth (16+) must upload proof of Selective Service registration.
Did you upload your Selective Service registration acknowledgment or verification letter to your participant portal? (Depending on when you submitted, the YEPS portal may not have verified your registration yet β even if you uploaded it. If you have access to your certificate, please reupload it here so staff can confirm.)
By entering my initials I certify that I am completely certain I already submitted the correct Selective Service registration proof when I enrolled. I understand I am not uploading a copy now, and that staff will confirm this against the YEPS portal.
β Based on our records, Working Papers and Selective Service don't apply to you β you're all set on these.
π΅ Your Payment Type
Checkingβ¦Getting paid by direct deposit is the fastest, safest way to be paid β no waiting on a pay card in the mail.
π³ YOU’LL RECEIVE A PAY CARD
You’re set to be paid with a Pay Card. Here’s exactly how it works — please read it all.
βΆ Watch: how your Pay Card works
ποΈ When you’ll get paid
Pay cards are not delivered until the 2nd week of the program, in time for your first pay day.
Start July 6th → your first pay day is July 17th.
Start July 13th → your first pay day is July 24th.
β οΈ Important β you pick it up and sign for it yourself
This is not a dash card or an online card — it is an actual credit card that you have to pick up and sign for.
Only you can sign for the card — not a parent, and not anyone else. You’ll need to identify yourself with an ID, or be verified by the NYCID Team.
π Pick-up points
Staten Island — The College of Staten Island & Port Richmond HS
Brooklyn — Canarsie Campus
Bronx — Lehman HS
We’ll set up our pick-up dates once we have the cards in hand — watch for an announcement.
There are no paper checks.
You can still switch to Direct Deposit any time — just follow the steps below on your dashboard.
π¦
Don't have a bank account yet?
NYCID is partnering with M&T Bank to help you open one.
Watch for announcements about M&T Bank on-site events at various locations this summer β they'll help you open an account so you can sign up for Direct Deposit. Announcements come by text and on the dashboard.
β οΈ You only get 2 tries total to sign up for Direct Deposit. If you register with incorrect banking information β or with CashApp, Venmo, or similar apps (these do not work) β you will have only 1 more attempt to enter correct bank information. Double-check your routing and account numbers before you submit.
How to sign up β watch the short video, then set it up:
Watch the direct deposit video below so you know exactly what to enter.
Have your bank routing number and account number ready (from a check or your banking app).
Open the participant portal and go to the direct deposit / payment section.
Enter your bank info, save, and confirm. That's it β you're set.
Need NYCID to cancel or change your direct deposit? We'll take care of it β tap a button and tell us, and a team member will follow up.
π Apply for jobs β pick your top 3
Do next
When the job portal opens, you'll pick your top 3 SYEP placements right here.
ποΈ The Job Portal opens Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
We'll turn this on the moment it goes live β check back, or watch for a text from NYCID. You don't need to do anything yet.
π Some participants in special programs will be pre-assigned to a worksite.
For example: IAM Media, Tottenville High School, Lehman Hub, and Tutoring. If you're in one of these programs, your placement will be set for you.
NYCID is reviewing your picks and matching you to a placement right now. Your choices can no longer be changed. Your final placement will appear in the βYour placement & first dayβ card above as soon as it's assigned. If something looks wrong, use Reach NYCID above.

π° SYEP 2026 Pay Schedule
1 Β· Lunch is unpaid β and it’s NOT optional
Work more than 5 hours β you must take a 30-minute lunch. Work a full 8-hour day β you must take a 1-hour lunch (that’s why 8 hours at work = 7 paid). Worked through lunch anyway? It still comes out of your pay β skipping lunch never adds paid time. Plan your lunch with your supervisor at the start of every shift.
